The name comes from Latin (cippus - the pile). The term Wingert is slang for vineyard.

This documents that not only the Celts but also the Romans have already operated viticulture in this location.

The Zeppwingert is an ancient vineyard planted with ungrafted vineyard vines aged up to 120 years. Besides a lot of blue slate you will also find some quartzite and gray slate.
